Stories, not science facts

Beliefs

Ancient Egyptians told stories about gods, fairness, and life after death. You can learn the stories without having to believe them.

A kind jackal-headed figure stands by a scale with a heart and a feather

Maat

Maat means balance, truth, and doing what is right. People showed the idea as a feather.

More to know: Kings said they kept maat. It was a rule for leaders, not only a picture on a wall.

Try the feather scale

This is the weighing-of-the-heart story, told kindly. It is not a real test. A kind act makes the heart lighter. A mean act makes it heavy.

The scale is waiting. Pick an act.

The story is about fairness. A light heart and the feather stay in balance.

Meet a god

These are gods from temples and stories. They were not real people you could visit.

Ra

A sun god. Kings liked to be called his son.

More to know: Later he was joined with Amun. People said Amun-Ra.
